Sci fi in the early 20th century was often based on space and time. So in the 1950’s a different style of art of promote these movies was used. Around this time World War 2 had just ended so many of these posters were based on a propaganda style that used been used during World War 2. From 1938 - 1946 this was considered the Golden Age of Science Fiction.
This is a poster for the movie “The Crawling Eye”. The movie was released in 1958, a period of time when Sci-fi movies were popular to cinema. At the top is a brief description of the movie in bold yellow text. The main focus of the poster is the imagery of the giant eye which is the main villain of the movie. As this is a poster from 1958 cameras did not have a high resolution enough to be printed onto a large canvas so posters like these would have been created by using illustrations to give it a vintage look.
Vintage posters like these had a lot more content rather than modern posters of today. For example this has a lot more text and uses multiple slogans and mottos, it also gives credits to the director, actors and producers in much larger font style than usual. There is multiple images of the two main actors where as in modern posters there would be one main image that is the focus point to the viewer.
The colours used in the poster are mainly orange and yellows. The effect of this is that it makes it look like the aftermath of an explosion that has happened in the sky, this could also question that is that the reason how the man came to be that size?
